I like to design things that work.

Welcome to Wilson’s designWorks. It’s the home of Steve Wilson’s freelance career, essentially, for prospective and potential clients to visit and take a look at my capabilities. Some visitors may know me from an in-person meeting, but others may not know me and want to know more about me.

In a nutshell, I design things - mostly web sites and the graphics for those sites, printed materials like brochures, pamphlets, business cards, CD-ROM sleeves, banners, flyers, etc., etc., etc. (you name it, I’ve probably done it). I’ve had over ten years of experience in graphic design and can handle most graphic design needs in a timely, professional and affordable manner. I’m a very pragmatic person and like to keep things simple and believe communication is key. I apply those basic principles to everything I design. Keeping in the nutshell, here’s my main capabilities:

Front-end Web design & development - I design the stuff you can see, the user interface, colors, layout, sometimes I also write the words. I am not a web programmer by any stretch of the imagination, though I am familiar with javascript, php, actionscript (in Flash). I’ve worked on development teams closely and know what’s possible with these technologies, so I subcontract the heavy-lifting programming tasks if there’s not an open-source alternative. I’m very familiar with Wordpress, which is my Content Management System (CMS) of choice due to it’s ease of setup, use, flexibility and extensibility. I can set up a Linux/UNIX-based web server with the required stuff (PHP/MySQL) and get things up and running, too.

Graphic design - If it can be printed, I’ve probably designed it - from a tiny 1/2″ x 1/2″ sticker up to a large-format 10 foot x 20 foot booth graphics.

Photography - I minored in photography in college and it is still a keen interest of mine. I am selling images through alamy.com and photographersdirect.com and would gladly take on small photographic projects.
